Dina’s practice is centred on shared rituals and cultural crafts, using interaction as a tool to bring people together. Rather than treating technology as an isolating force, Dina employs it to enable communal experiences grounded in cultural knowledge and joy.
Her latest creation, Majmaa – مَجْمَع, reimagines music-making through Moroccan hospitality and the ritual of gathering. Inspired by the round dining table – a symbol of non-hierarchy and togetherness – Majmaa transforms communal interaction from food to sound. Hand-carved surfaces embedded with brass touch sensors activate classical instruments such as the oud, blending symphonic and electronica music into contemporary, collective performance.
Her work dissolves boundaries between tradition and modernity, individuality and community. Dina proposes an alternative future for interactive design: one rooted in co-creation, cultural continuity, and the power of shared experience.
Majmaa is acquired by Kunstmuseum Den Haag and now on show in Base Line: Music meets Art.
