We are MAQAM, DAR Cultural Agency, and Museum Rembrandthuis. We’re creating an exhibition about Rembrandt and the inspiration he found in his encounters with Ottoman and Persian culture.
Get inspired and join the conversation during creative workshops in Amsterdam. Your ideas might become part of the exhibition!
How? We are organizing three workshops: on 14 May, 29 May, and 6 June. You can participate in 1, 2, or all 3 workshops. No experience is needed; everyone is welcome.

Note: Workshops are in Dutch.
Workshop 1: Looking and creating like Rembrandt
What did Rembrandt take away from the Ottoman and Persian world? In this workshop, we will discuss the presence of these cultures in Amsterdam in the 17th century. How is this reflected in Rembrandt’s art? Next, you will create an etching yourself, using the same traditional techniques as Rembrandt.
Workshop 2: What does Rembrandt awaken in you?
Do you recognize something of your own life in Rembrandt’s artworks? And in contemporary artworks? In this workshop, we will look at art together and discuss recognition and acknowledgment. What questions, feelings, and stories come to mind?
Workshop 3: How do you feel welcome at Rembrandt’s home?
Do you feel welcome in a museum? In this workshop, we will explore what it takes to feel at home somewhere. We will work with objects, but also with scents, tastes, and sounds!
