‘Carnival’ magnifies the details and the craftsmanship of costumes worn during Caribbean + Latin-American carnivals. It is a visual homage to the admiration for the amount of work, effort, and inventiveness that goes into the creation of these costumes.  The work began in 2019 and has expanded ever since. For Tarona, Caribbean and Latin-American carnivals are more than spectacle; they are a direct connection to her inner spirit and cultural heritages. Shifting focus from sweeping views to intricate costume details, she invites audiences to look closer; celebrating the details while honouring those who work tirelessly to bring these costumes to life. They allow her to embrace abundance, defy convention, and challenge norms while fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the vibrant artistry and historical significance of these carnivals.

“Carnival is not just spectacle, it’s living heritage. Each feather, bead, and rhythym carries memory. Through her lens, Tarona transforms these moments into living archives, revealing the beauty, labor and spirit often unseen. She captures it with such honesty and depth that each image feels alive, breathing colour, movement and soul. What she captures is not only costume, but spirit, the rhythm of people who keep dancing, creating and remembering, no matter what.”
