In October 1990, after the killing of a child in a police hit-and-run, riots broke out in the Mas-du-Taureau neighborhood: fires, looting, and clashes with police. The events drew national attention and marked a turning point in France’s awareness of the “banlieue crisis.” The nearby police station, a symbol of authority, became a flashpoint, often targeted in later incidents.

Fifteen years later, in 2005, tensions resurfaced when a teenager was injured during an arrest by the BAC in Mas-du-Taureau, just days before the deaths of Zyed and Bouna sparked nationwide riots. Police responded with militarized tactics, from “commando-style” units to armored vehicles.

In this digital painting, we see a victory scene of the people against the oppressive forces. The police station? Their Bastille. It’s time to fall.
